Innovation Summit
October 4, 2019
Mall of America, Bloomington, MN

The Innovation Summit unites students, academics and business leaders from across the state who are passionate about developing innovative solutions to today's problems. Attendees will hear from a keynote speaker, learn from industry experts during InnovationFest and then collaborate in teams to create innovative solutions to real world problems during the Innovation Challenge.

We are pleased to welcome Jacob Ward as our keynote speaker. Jacob Ward is the Director of Marketing for Jaguar Communications, a multi-million dollar fiber optic telecommunications company based in Minnesota. He is also a former DECA member/officer and current Board of Directors Vice Chair. Jacob has a 2 year degree from South Central College, showing that without a 4 year degree you can still accomplish many things. Currently living in Mankato Minnesota with his wife and two kids, Jacob enjoys spending time with his family, watching Minnesota sports, investigating next level technology investments and developing new marketing strategies. Some of his favorite accomplishments include rising from his dark past, winning multiple DECA awards including 1st place in the Global Idea Challenge, closing “whale” accounts and his children's successes. If you have ever met Jacob you know how much he cares for Collegiate DECA and is always willing to go the extra mile to help another member. When asked how he achieved his success he will always respond “ Without DECA I would still be delivering pizzas.”

Sponsored by Minnesota Foundation for Student Organizations, Jaguar Communications, CDH Photo, KNotion Labs, Whole Earth, Oggi Professional Services, Hytest Safety Footwear, Mattress Firm, Securian Financial, Robert Half International, Tuxedo Central, Convergent Capital, Thomson Reuters, Cowing Robards, Fast Global Solutions, the Mall of America and the University of Minnesota.

State Career Development Conference
February 27-28, 2020
Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center, Alexandria, MN

The State Career Development Conference provides students with the opportunity to experience real life business scenarios through competition and connect to potential employers through networking events and feedback. Experienced industry professionals interact with students in a judged format and students are rewarded for their work at our awards ceremonies.

We are pleased to welcome Jill Blashack Strahan as our keynote speaker. Born and raised in rural Minnesota, Jill grew up on her family's farm, where she was deeply influenced by her father's entrepreneurial spirit. "Dad was typically before his time," she says. "He was an ideas man." Like father, like daughter.

After earning an associate's degree in sales and marketing, Jill co-owned and managed a cafe with her father called "Jill's Grill" and later started her own retail gift basket shop. And then her story took a whole new turn.

In 1995, she founded Tastefully Simple on what she often calls "a dream and a shoestring." In fact, the company started in a 1,200-square-foot shed with no running water, using a pool table as a packing station.

Today Jill Blashack Strahan is a captivating speaker, author and one of the nation's leading female entrepreneurs. Above all, she's a role model and inspiration to thousands of people across the country.
